Maskeradbalen
Folkoperan
Rumors have circulated ahead of the premiere of Folkoperan’s *Maskeradbalen* that the singers were not allowed to start singing at rehearsals until three weeks before the premiere and that the team feasted on old TV recordings of Erik Lindegren for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Lindegren did the previous Swedish, classic translation of the Verdi opera in 1958).
I don’t know what’s true, but one thing I do know: This is self-ironic, opera-geeky meta-musical theater with live video, men in dresses, and not one but two Amelias on stage, but they never fail to put the music at the center. How often does that happen, really?” (Hanna Höglund, Expressen)
