A newly written opera concept about women at the crossroads of rebellion and conformity.
In art and religion, as well as in the symbols of opera, we encounter images of male power dominance. *Amforta* confronts the gendered structure of the symbolic world by staging it with the 'wrong' subjects. Is it possible to replace male heroes with women? The 'father-son' with 'mother-daughter'? Can the wounds of Jesus and Amfortas be borne by female bodies?
